For Haas Leader I aspire to be Essay, you can either mention a leader, an amalgam of leadership styles, or focus on qualities that make a holistic leader. I recommend against mentioning an example since, as a reviewer, it is easy to question the qualities of the leader mentioned in the essay if the person has controversies and values that contradict the qualities highlighted in the essay.

If the person is a public figure, you are taking a huge risk since the admission team’s political leanings might not match with the leader you mention. And studies have consistently shown that people are at least implicitly open about discriminating against others based on political beliefs. In a deeply divided left vs. right narrative, an example of a leader who is a centrist or a perceived right-leaning person will immediately put you at a disadvantage.

Instead of personalities, here are 5 qualities to highlight for the Haas Leader I aspire to be Essay.

1. Impact-Oriented
2. Valuing Diverse Experiences
3. Intellectual Curiosity
4. Leveraging Power for Good
5. Adaptability
