Atul Jose (Admissions Consultant, F1GMAT): IIE Placement Model is a model in which The Institute of International Education (IIE) selects the school for which the students will be applying, and they themselves fill out the application. In the other model, students need to apply on their own.
IIE Placement Model applies to India and Taiwan.
France, South Korea, the UK, Canada, and Germany allow Fulbright scholarship applicants to apply on their own.
The drawback of the IIE model is that the advisors will match schools and programs based on the goals that the applicant mentions. Many times, the goals that applicants start with are often overtly idealistic or built on first impressions that could be different from what the school offers.
If your post-MBA goal is drafted without brainstorming with an expert MBA admissions consultant, the whole process could lead to a mismatch in schools.
Here are some tips for drafting the post-MBA or post-master goals:
- Start with an ambitious goal.
- Select professional, personal, and extra-curricular milestones where you exceeded – your expectations and you were among the top 1 to 10%. If your peer group were international or part of the most competitive cohort, use it as the baseline for setting your goals.
- Evaluate ranking and GMAT/GPA/GRE criteria to find the schools where your scores fit in. Don’t undershoot. Always aim high.
- Don’t overshoot if you have no experience or academic milestones to support your goals. In such cases, seek the help of IIE advisors. Better a top 20 or top 30 with funding support than no MBA or Master at all. The increase in salary is close to 60-230%.
